Forest WIP!

Hello all, here's the most recent environment work I've been spending much of my time on. I'm really liking how this turned out, I learned a lot in regards to making trees and branches in 3D and found it to be very fun to do. I'll definitly be working on more trees in the near future for fun. I think my biggest fault in this pic though is the sky, I probably will go back in and make that more believable at some point. I'm also not entirely content with the rocks, especially with the one in the midground that has a strange shadow casting on it. Regardless, I am proud of how this has turned out up to this point, it was a great learning experience.

Run Cycle

Here is a Run cycle I just finished that I am extremely proud of. I'm actually taking a class over at FuturePoly which is a studio ran by employee's of ArenaNet who are amazing at art stuffs. It was a great idea for me to go there and take an animation class so that I could get a different point of view and insight on animations than I usually do from my digipen teachers. This FuturePoly animation teacher is super awesome, I wish I could have more classes with him but I will have to deal.

The Axolotl

Here's the latest painting I've been working on, I enjoy how it's turning out so far. I feel like there is only a little bit of work left mainly on the dudes face here. Anyways, this was based on a story called "Axolotl Eyes". In my interpretation I imagined the Axolotl was swapping peoples souls. So in this picture the axolotl is actually the man and the man is the axolotl. Thus the Axolotl is sad because he will be trapped in this form for a very long time, possibly till death. While the demonic Axolotl can live life freely in his new body.

Luigi

So a few weeks ago I heard it was the 25th anniversary of the mario games. After hearing this, I decided to doodle a Luigi for the fun of it. Enjoy!

second semester junior project animation

Here is the second semester project I did my junior year at Digipen. I'm not as proud of this one since the animation didn't turn out very well and that's what I'm aiming towards now days. However, this project was also a big experiment on creating environments and it somewhat turned out alright. I tested out various ways of dealing with creating foilage in 3D. Found out what methods worked pretty well and what didn't, also I managed to get some good practice in with working with alpha maps when texturing. Which turned out to actually be very entertaining, I found trying to think of modeling objects such as plants with parts of the polygons being missing due to alpha maps made me think drastically differently about the objects themselves. All in all it was a fun experimental project, however in the end, I don't think it turned out very well in terms of a finished product.

Animation: First semester Junior project

Here is the lastest animation I've worked on at DigiPen. The entire thing was planned and created within the first semester of my Junior year. On this project I focused mainly on creating my own rig that would be capable of controlling a hanging jacket like his does, as well as focusing on his animation.

Animation: Game team enemy

Some first pass animations for the Surge character in the Digipen game I'm working on.

Ichi Process Work

Here Is just a taste of the massive amount of process work that went into creating my Ichi animation. First off I'll show some character comps of when I was designing Ichi himself. Also I'd like to say, during the planning period of this character, me and my classmates had to draw a house style out of a hat. I actually ended up getting the style of 'Tim Burton' or more specifically, 'The Nightmare Before Christmas'. Which hopefully shows in all of my process work, and more so in the final design.

There was also a lot of thought put into the instrument he plays oddly enough. It actually didn't turn out to be a big part of my animation, but it was definitly a big part in the story that Ichi actually came from.

After all of these concepts were processed then reviewed by my teacher, we both chose on what would be the best choice for my character depending on the house style I got.

Last I have thumbnails of a storyboard for this Ichi animation. Which shows the thought I put into each of my shots before I went in and animated it all.

Doodles!

Alright! Adding more to my art dump here; first off we have some drawings that I did at life drawing sessions. The majority of the ones shown here in this picture are actually pretty recent.

Here's a little bit more of drawing people from life, however these people were 'regular' people walking around a comic book convention. All done at Comic Con 09.

Now as for this next one, it's a little bit older but I don't find myself drawing big cats too often... I should practice them again. Anyways, I did these back when I was trying to learn the anatomy of big cats and practice drawing them since in my first large scale animation project with Ichi, his familiar was actually, a big cat.

Next are all just random doodles I drew for the hell of it. However, working through a lot of facial ideas on this page, I ended up creating a pretty interesting character that I possibly will use for an animation in the future.

And last, here's what the more refined look for the character that I made up through my random doodle fest in the last picture. He looks like he could have a really funny story to him. Personally I imagined him as some kind of depressed or easily angered ice cream truck driver.

Animation: Can Opener

Here's yet another animation of mine that I worked on at DigiPen. This was a really small side project based on trying to put believable life into inatimate objects. Nothing really big, this animation really didn't take long at all to make but it was still really enjoyable to work on. :)

Everything by me.

Animation: Mime Field

Here is yet another animation I worked on last year, this assignment was actually a speed test. We were given three days to model, skin, and animate our character. Considering the time restraints that we were given, I believe this animation turned out really well actually.

Model, and Animation done by me
design by my teacher, Adam Crespi
The Rig I used was biped in 3DS Max.

Animation: Ichi

This is a pretty old animation project, in fact it was my first full fledged animation project I did at DigiPen. This project was the result of a year of picking up a program I've never used before (3DS Max) and then coming up with something I can show off. While I believe it turned out pretty well for the time I finished it, I believe my skills have improved greatly since then. As for the actual render of the video as well, It turned out to be much darker once I transferred it over to youtube sadly but here it is.

Animation, Textures, Rigs, Models, and design all done by me

Incoming Art Dump!

Finally I get a blog all of my own! Over today and tomorrow I should be dumping a ton of my work that I've done over the past couple years. So when people ask me to see my work, I will have a website to give finally =)
